Snowscapes : Black and White

Image
Check me out on social media  Instagram  and  Facebook  !  Winter just started here in Michigan with good amount of snow already on the ground. I'm combining all my snow landscapes shots over the years to showcase the beauty of the snow covered land. It just feels so serene and calm, of course hiking through the woods to shoot pictures felt exactly the opposite! I prefer shooting the snow covered in landscapes in black and white and mostly on film because B&W removes all the distractions and film cameras hold up better with no electronics in the cold! Enjoy!

Winter Lanscapes

I shot these pictures two months ago and finally developed them! Both are shot using Mamiya RZ67 ProII + Sekor Z110 f/2.8 on Fuji Neopan 100. I have started appreciating the Mamiya for sharp negatives it produces. Hope to do more with the camera as the weather gets better!

Summer Time in Northern Michigan

Image
Check me out on social media  Instagram  and  Facebook  !  Michigan landscapes in summer are something else! Blue skies, crystal clear fresh water lakes, big clouds make for perfect postcards! Northern Michigan especially is unevenly blessed with nature beauty and it's certainly one of my favorite spots to shoot landscapes! There are also many wineries where you can taste/buy the delicious Michigan wines! The food scene is getting better! I like to visit the same spots whenever possible as the familiarity of the locations helps me take better and interesting view points that I would miss as a one time visitor! Enjoy these postcards!  Lake Superior National Lake Shore Under the big Mac Serene Lake Superior Tahquamenon Falls Summer Beach at Leland

Long Exposure : Water and Rocks Part I

Image
Check me out on social media  Instagram  and  Facebook  !  Water and rocks are my favorite combination for shooting long exposure photos. The stillness of the rocks add the solidity and the motion of the water adds the fluidity. The blurred motion of the water just soothes me so much! I have a bunch of ND filters from 1 stop to all the way 10 stops that I use for shooting these pictures! Enjoy!

Bokeh Machines

I have to admit, I'm an addict for lenses that produce quality bokeh. Those who are not familiar with the term bokeh, check out this Wiki article. Typically the lenses that produce very nice bokeh have large apertures - f/2 or lower in aperture number. When shot wide open (although not required) the circles of confusion these lenses produce in out of focus areas are a joy to look at. It creates that "dreamy" look at least that's how people with non photographic backgrounds have described it to me. There are some favorite lenses that I have in each format that I shoot with and I call them Bokeh Machines. Small Format - Typically 135mm film size or smaller. It's also known as "full frame" or "cropped frame" in digital world depending on the size of the sensor. Hexanon 57mm f/1.2 -  This lens is amazing and truly affordable compared to some of the other lenses that I own. It can be adopted to 4/3rds or micro 4/3rds format but it's t

Delware Park... almost

Image
Gosh. I should remember to update my blog often. With the Twitter micro-blogging, all my small ideas drain out(I don't even know if they technically qualify as ideas). So unless I do something that challenges my limit there is no topic to blog. Here is one which makes a pretty good candidate for a blog. I had seen a few pictures of Delaware Park, near Port Sanilac Michigan. I wanted to shoot some similar pictures with rocks in the water and waves splashing against them. Last night I "intuitively" decided to get up early and go shoot there. As it's about 2 hours away and I didn't know exact location of the park, I left at 3.30 AM, morning i.e. first step to push my limits. One of the few 3.30 AMs rises I've seen in my life. You know, intuitions always don't result in your favor. So someone else had decided to disrupt my plans. Weather: Rainy, Foggy and Misty. The park's location couldn't be traced by my GPS. My watch was in rest as it'd run ou

Happiness

Some people have complained that I haven't updated my blog in ages. So... :). I have a photo up on flickr, titled "Happiness". It was supposed to be for an assignment, for a group I shoot with. I'm a big Bokeh fan and my creativity doesn't cross established norms of cliche. So I sprayed water on the table, placed a text chit which reads Happiness. Used 2 strobes and threw water drops out of focus. On the left there is the Orange gelled strobe and Blue gelled strobe is placed on the right. So when the camera's shutter is released, the lights are fired and from the same pattern they are placed, they blend in together. The setup: The result: Olympus FL-50R was at 1/16th of power and Nikon SB-28 was at 1/16 - 0.3EV. Minor adjustments in Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop CS4.
