Portraits: Kristie

Image
Check me out on social media  Instagram  and  Facebook  !  This was a shoot I did a while ago. I shot both digital and large format film. Digital cameras provide flexibility to shoot from different angle and without a tripod. Large format camera does much better in terms of bokeh and separating the subject from the background. I love shooting environmental portraits compared to studio portraits. The environment adds an extra dimension and makes the images much more dynamic and narrates a visual story!   I'm making more of these blog posts as I'm migrating photos from flickr to my blog and Facebook. I never had to group my work by projects before on flickr. This gives me an opportunity to combine work as they were shot and create a timeline of sorts of all my projects! Portraits by the water

Check me out on social media Instagram and Facebook  !  These are some of my favorite portraits. I rarely shoot the whole set in black and white but the ambient light was just perfect for B&W portraits. The location was gorgeous too! Enjoy these portraits and more of blog posts as I migrate my work from Flickr to my blog and Facebook.  As mentioned above, I'm migrating my photos away from flickr to my blog and Facebook as I'm more active on these platforms and I don't want to pay them for subscription fees! I'm logically grouping the sets that belong together and posting them as a single post.

Dance!

Image
Check me out on social media  Instagram  and  Facebook  ! I shot these dance portraits a while ago but never got around to posting them. Portraiture along with landscapes are two of my preferred types of photography. Combining the two is even better! Environmental portraits are so much fun to shoot! The graceful poses by the danders makes photography very easy! I'm getting back to social media after a considerable gap and I will slowly fill in the gaps with my posts to be more comprehensive on this blog.

MJ with Aero Ektar and Speed Graphic

Image
I finally finished processing all the film shots from my shoot with MJ. All pictures are shot with Aero Ektar + Speed Graphic combo. First two are shot on Arista EDU 100 and the rest are on Ilford Delta 100. Arista is nice and cheap but the emulsion is not so good. When zoomed in at 100% the scans have spots. Ilford on the other hand is simply amazing.  All the negatives are self developed and scanned using Epson V700. I'm happy with the overall results and love the bokeh. PS:Blogspot is adding some type of tint to all the pictures uploaded for some reason. None of the pictures have the coffee tint.

Fall Portrait Shoot

Probably the last outdoor shoot of this year. It was great working with MJ, I love working with creative individuals like her. Here some of the digital pictures. Yet to process the film sheets.

Striving for Quality

Image
Gosh! Time flies, it's been more than 2 months since I updated my blog. Ooopss! So anyways, I was going through my flickr pages to do a self review of where I'm headed in terms of photography. Some big changes.... I have done way too many portraits, my post processing skills have improved, my style has changed from shooting a wide angle frames to a tightly cropped frames and most importantly I'm paying way too much attention towards the quality of the images. I no longer want/create dirty photoshopped looking images. I'd rather do minimalistic processing and work the camera, light and the setup of the shoot. I compare some of my portraits with some of the best in the infiniteness of the internet... to my surprise all those images have a real clean look. Major factors that define these images include minimalistic vignetting, eyes sharpened only around iris, skin retouched but not smoothened out, some sharp details around eyebrows, hair strands, finer shadows etc. I had

Weekend of Shooting, Driving and Redbulls

Image
I did 2 photo shoots last weekend. 2 entirely different shoots. First one with Strobist Ann Arbor group on Saturday. This was set in Detroit in a decayed mansion (I think it was a mansion!). No power outlets, no restrooms, no air conditioner and sometimes no floor ..no kidding :). It was a blast though! Along with cameras, lights and models photographer also had to be aware of situation of the location itself. Mark and I setup our White Lightning on Vegabond batteries and started shooting. BTW I'm seriously impressed by performance of Vegabond II. Anyone looking forward to buy that, "Do it now!" It's totally worth what it costs. We also did some outdoor photos and the wind wasn't helping to say the least. Some photos from this shoot: The second shoot was in Lexington, Mich. Originally planned as Olympus shoot, just resulted in Cindy and I shooting, because of Father's day. This was one of those times, where nature is too kind towards you and th
