I was completely oblivious to the advancement in digital photography as I concentrate mainly the results than the tools. I shoot medium and large format films and till recently shot with Olympus 4/3 systems in the digital world. I heard about the world of mirror less cameras and how they make using legacy lenses on digital cameras an easy process. I decided to check out the Sony A7 series and bought a used Sony A7RII. I'm super impressed by this system. It was very intuitive to learn and there are plenty of custom button that I can customize, so I didn't have to go digging around the menus. It has very good video feature and I think it'll be a new skill for me to learn! I don't have any "digital" lenses yet and decided to adapt Konica Hexanon 57mm f/1.2(pictured below) and a Pentacon six 135mm f/2.8 (M42 screw mount). I have to admit, I'm an addict for lenses that produce quality bokeh. Those who are not familiar with the term bokeh, check out this Wiki article. Typically the lenses that produce very nice bokeh have large apertures - f/2 or lower in aperture number. When shot wide open (although not required) the circles of confusion these lenses produce in out of focus areas are a joy to look at. It creates that "dreamy" look at least that's how people with non photographic backgrounds have described it to me. There are some favorite lenses that I have in each format that I shoot with and I call them Bokeh Machines. Small Format - Typically 135mm film size or smaller. It's also known as "full frame" or "cropped frame" in digital world depending on the size of the sensor. I am not a big 35mm fan but Kodachrome was something else (I only could my hands on 135 format).It was an excellent film to use Hexanon 57mm f/1.2 + Konica T3 combo. These days I mostly shoot and develop E-6 slides. RIP Kodachrome.

Some people have complained that I haven't updated my blog in ages. So... :). I have a photo up on flickr, titled "Happiness". It was supposed to be for an assignment, for a group I shoot with. I'm a big Bokeh fan and my creativity doesn't cross established norms of cliche. So I sprayed water on the table, placed a text chit which reads Happiness. Used 2 strobes and threw water drops out of focus. On the left there is the Orange gelled strobe and Blue gelled strobe is placed on the right. So when the camera's shutter is released, the lights are fired and from the same pattern they are placed, they blend in together. The setup: The result: Olympus FL-50R was at 1/16th of power and Nikon SB-28 was at 1/16 - 0.3EV. Minor adjustments in Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop CS4.
