Travel Journal : Alaska

Image
Check me out on social media  Instagram  and  Facebook  ! I've been meaning to write a blurb about the Alaska trip. Finally getting to it now! We did the Alaska trip in 2017 and it was truly an amazing experience. We visited Fairbanks, Denali National Park, Anchorage, Kenai Fjords and surrounding areas. The whole state is very picturesque. Mount Denali is truly majestic and we were lucky to catch a glimpse of the peak (apparently it's not easy to see the peak as there is usually a cloud cover). I found the food scene in Alaska to be surprisingly good! Some pictures from Denali National Park and scenic drives near Seward and Anchorage.

New to Sony System

Image
I was completely oblivious to the advancement in digital photography as I concentrate mainly the results than the tools. I shoot medium and large format films and till recently shot with Olympus 4/3 systems in the digital world. I heard about the world of mirror less cameras and how they make using legacy lenses on digital cameras an easy process. I decided to check out the Sony A7 series and bought a used Sony A7RII. I'm super impressed by this system. It was very intuitive to learn and there are plenty of custom button that I can customize, so I didn't have to go digging around the menus. It has very good video feature and I think it'll be a new skill for me to learn! I don't have any "digital" lenses yet and decided to adapt Konica Hexanon 57mm f/1.2(pictured below) and a Pentacon six 135mm f/2.8 (M42 screw mount). Both the lenses had ready made adapters available to the Sony system and were very affordable. There focus peaking and focus magnifica

Travel Journal : Santorini, Greece

Image
I love traveling and photographing the places I visit. In my early travels, I used to carry pretty much all the gear that I owned because "I didn't want to miss out". I have definitely grown from this position to carry minimal essential gear and be more efficient in my travels. Santorini is one of the bigger Greek Islands. All of them are beautiful. Getting to Santorini/Thera from Detroit wasn't easy. My wife and I had to switch three planes from Detroit->Frankfurt->Athens->Santorini. The place was well worth it! It's absolutely gorgeous and serene. We stayed in Imerovigli part of the island, which is a bit more family friendly than other party hubs. My wife and hiked a lot and I carried my Olympus E-5 with 7-14mm lens and took landscape photos along the hike. This one is one my absolute favorites! The vast view of the Aegean sea along with nestled white buildings make this a quintessential view of the island. This is what I came for! The next d

Some 4x5s shot on Aero Ektar

I finally processed some color and BW negatives from last year and scanned these.  The discharge tube for my Jobo was broken and I couldn't process any film for six months. To make matters worse, the tube had an odd inner diameter but fortunately I had an opportunity to travel to Germany and picked up a compatible tube from a hardware store there! Problem solved! The black and white pictures are shot on Arista EDU 100 and the color on Kodak Ektar 100.

Basement Photography Studio Setup

Image
I wanted to have a basement photo studio for a while now. This winter made it clear to me that I needed  to set it up so that I won't go the whole winter without doing photography. That would have been depressing. Initially I thought I'd have just one setup with black background but since I owned two different setups I decided to go with one white and one black background. They are not fancy but they do the job well. I hope I can do studio portraits till it gets nice outside! Here are the setup pictures. The Infinite black background with White Lightning X1600s The White background with Nikon SB28 and Olympus FL50R These are simple setups anyone can do in their basement/spare room. My basement is unfinished so there is no heat so I had to use the space heater to keep the area warm (not very effective unfortunately). I moved most of studio stuff downstairs so I have ready access to various light modifiers, reflectors etc. A few things that I ne
